What Keeps The Shape Of Your Jeans In Tact?

Jeans, especially your favourite skinny pair, fits snugly, supports in all the right places and gives you the confidence that even a designer gown can’t. When you find the perfect pair, you swear you would wear only that for a lifetime and wish that it would last forever…but…the inevitable happens– after a couple of washes, the once snug fit becomes unshapely, the once superior support feels more like a burden to carry on your legs and, naturally, the confidence turns to despair and even flannel pyjamas appeal to you more than your once __ jeans. You know why?

It’s because the cotton elastane yarn in the fabric of your jeans has given up.

If it isn’t high quality yarn, it is likely to give way after a couple of washes. Cotton is known to loose shape on washing which is why it is suggested to either purchase pre-washed cotton denims or, if you’re buying stretch denims, look for a slightly higher percentage of elastane, more commonly known as spandex, in your jeans. Why?

Elastane is known for its elasticity retention properties. If the Cotton Elastane Yarn in your jeans is a blend of high quality spandex which is more than 3 percent of the total composition, the jeans are likely to retain their shape, wash after wash and withstand some serious wear and tear.

So the next time you go out hunting for a new pair of jeans hoping they’d last longer than the previous pair, just take a look at the label for a higher percentage of spandex. Let better cotton elastane yarn come to your rescue!
